Istanbul's top sights are grouped right around the Hippodrome in Sultanahmet Square, so you can visit them all on your first (or only) day. Here are recommended licensed private guides.
MORNING
Topkapi Palace (9-5, closed Tuesday; stay 2-3 hr). Get there at 8:45 am and go straight to the Harem, which gets overcrowded
Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) (9-4, closed Monday; stay 1 hr). Right next to Topkapi. Don't miss the best mosaics, on the upper level.
LUNCH nearby on Divan Yolu: Sultan Pub, Sultanahmet Köfteci, etc.
AFTERNOON
Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) (stay 1/2 hr). Just across the park from Ayasofya, on the Hippodrome. The mosque is closed to visitors for 25 minutes after each call to prayer, and for several hours midday on Friday.
Byzantine Hippodrome (stay 1/2 hr). Enjoy the monuments in the park
Sunken Palace Cistern (Yerebatan Sarayi) (9-5; stay 1/2 hr). At the NE end of the Hippodrome beneath the little park.
Grand Bazaar (9-5, closed Sunday & holidays; stay 1-2 hrs, longer if you're really shopping). Walk uphill on Divan Yolu from the Hippodrome and see the sights along the way, or take the tram along it to Çarsikapi (CHAR-shuh-kah-puh).

Special Interest Trips The Blue Mosque on the ppodrome in Sultanahmet Square, Istanbul
Aya Sophia Cathedral, Istanbul. A masterpiece of architecture, finished in 537 AD.
Buttresses and reinforcements hold up the dome of the Aya Sophia, Istanbul. The Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Camii), Istanbul. The ceiling of the Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Camii), Istanbul. Serious tile work. Iznik tile work, that is. The New Mosque (Yeni Cami). The ground was broken in 1597. Yeah, that's right. Over 400 years old, and it's still the "New Guy."
Notable Mosques, Istanbul A must-stop for visitors to Istanbul -- the famous Covered Market (Kapali Carsi). You'll often find better deals out in countryside where the items are made, but here, everything is literally under one roof.
A section on things to buy in Turkey. Small Moorish windows set high in the arched ceilings let in sunlight. The Covered Market, Istanbul. The Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Saray), Istanbul, was a big water tank built by Justinian the Great in 532. Using, er, 'found materials,' the cistern was built with the ruins of classical buildings. This face serves as the base to a column.
Other monuments in Istanbul. The chaos and congestion in the market streets of Istanbul whirl into an immersing cultural experience. Water taxis ply the calm waters of the upper Golden Horn, Istanbul. Topkapi Palace (Topkapi Sarayi), Istanbul, was the seat of the Ottoman Sultans from Mehmet the Conqueror in the 1450s until Mahmut II in 1839. This is, of course, the most critical building in the palace: The Confectionery (Helvahane) of the Second Court. The Four Seasons, Istanbul is by far the best hotel that we've ever stayed in. Built from a remodeled prison in Istanbul's Sultanahmet, the hotel is a nice example of Ottoman Architecture. A slouching Ottoman house frames a minaret in the Kaleici, Antalya. A brightly painted cart in Cavusin or Zelve. Probably Zelve. Bah, my notes are a mess. I can see every bump in the road in my scrawl, but not where I took this picture.
It's gotta be Zelve, Cappadocia. Street food. The Kaleici is the old, Roman-walled city of Antalya. A Doner Kebap stand (Doner Kebapci or D? Kebap穩. A Doner Kebap has a lot in common with your basic Greek gyro. Don't tell a Greek or a Turk this, but their countries' traditional foods, drinks and booze are nearly identical.

Sightseeing in Istanbul
Istanbul is the only city embracing two continents: Asia and Europe. The Bosphorus, meandering through the heart of the city, combines the waters of the Black Sea and Marmara Sea.
Istanbul, the former capital of three empires- Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman- displays many surviving historical works of art revealing the traces of these empires.
Istanbul, while preserving the inheritance of its past looks forward to its modern future…
Istanbul a source of inspiration for photographers, artists, poets...
Well, to cut it short, Istanbul is a fascinating city with something for everyone. The museums, churches, palaces, mosques, bazaars, forests, groves and sights of natural beauty seem never-ending.
As you rest on the European shore of the Bosphorus at sunset and look at the golden evening light reflected on the windows of the houses on the Asian shore, or as you stand on the Asian shore and watch the sun setting behind the elegant minarets of old Istanbul, you immediately appreciate, why so many centuries ago, people chose to settle on this extraordinary spot. Indeed there will be times you feel Istanbul is really one of the most glorious cities in the world.
We believe words are not enough to describe the treasures of Istanbul so come along and find out
Transport in Istanbul
Istanbul, covering an area of 5.220 sq.km is an incredibly crowded and complicated town. Inner city transportation is one of the biggest problems. It does not matter whether you have a car or not. You may not even find a place to park your car in certain places and in certain hours. On the other hand if you don’t know your destination it’s very easy to get lost. Don’t be confused! Once you learn to deal with the town’s “unwritten rules” you’ll have great pleasure. Moreover we are here to help you and to ease your way of life.
With the lack of an elaborated city plan Istanbul changes face quite fast. The city offers many traffic challenges to its citizens.
For example a person living on the Anatolian side may work on the European side or just the opposite. Therefore during the rush hours the existing two bridges over the Bosphorus (Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridges respectively) and three bridges over the Golden Horn are very crowded. Well at least you can enjoy the panorama of both the Bosphorus and Golden Horn while waiting in the terrific traffic!
The highways passing through both bridges are the main roads connecting Europe to Asia and all International Road Transfers (TIR) must use these highways. As a result, together with inner city traffic you meet a very colorful range of vehicles causing this confusion!
Well of course the bridges are not the only way of transport: ferry (arabalı vapur), steamship (vapur), sea bus (deniz otobüsü), motor boat (motor), metro (metro), light metro (hafif metro) (only on the European side), sub urban trains (banliyö treni), municipality bus (belediye otobüsü), public bus (halk otobüsü), tunnel (tünel), tram (tramvay), taxi (taksi), and public taxi (dolmuş) are the other alternatives. Nevertheless people still prefer the bridges and we have yet to figure out why!!!
Accommodation
Divan Istanbul
Sometimes it's difficult to find a hotel that can provide a soft and comfortable pillow, at an affordable price.
While talking about accomodation it is worth to mention the Hotels. They are not the places where we only stay overnight in other cities but also are the sites we enjoy to pop in at downtown. For instance, why don't you spend a "Valentines" night with your lover or spouse at one of the attractive hotels of the city? Or why don't you spend a weekend in a special hotel at Sultanahmet and wander around all day long. Let's be more imaginative: What about a weekend escape to Princes' Islands?
The addresses of Special Hotels, which are mostly renovated mansions, Apart hotels together with modest and luxurious (5-star) hotels of the town are given in our Yellow Pages.
We wish you a joyous stay… We have daily and weekly tour options with our brandnew comfortable vans and cars we have also a free pick up service to the tourists for 24 hours. All you have to do is call or send us an email. We are ready to welcome you and give you the best service. e mail:siamtour@mynet.com Phone:00905446313358
